Written by Rev. Kimberly Salico-Diehl
Scripture Translation: The Message
Kimberly is a pastor, pianist, composer, and chaplain in Northern Colorado.
As a piano student of the late Leonid Hambro and the late Shirley Cohen, she
earned her Master of Music degree in piano performance from New York’s Purchase
Conservatory in 2002. In 2011 Kimberly earned her Master of Divinity degree from
Andover Newton Theological School, where she began to arrange and compose
sacred music. There she developed her interest in the intersection of music,
psychology, and spirituality through lecture recital programs, including themes
such as: mindfulness and silence, grief and loss, and creativity and transformation.
In 2012 Kimberly completed her sixth unit of chaplaincy training where she focused
on spiritual care in pediatric and adult psychiatry, intensive care (adult and neonatal),
and oncology, with an overall emphasis on trauma. Her chaplaincy training
has led her to consider the emotional and spiritual impact of music on care for the
soul.
In designing creative worship services, Kimberly writes music for congregational
singing (usually using lyrics directly from scripture), and organizes dramatic and
choral readings of scripture, speeches, and sermon presentations. She enjoys
working collaboratively and lifting up the talents and work of those around her.
A former chaplain at a local trauma hospital, Kimberly is currently the Bridge
Minister for Plymouth Congregational UCC in Fort Collins, where she also serves as
a police, fire, and disaster chaplain. She studies jazz with Mark Sloniker, and
practices martial arts and chi kung. Her husband, James, is a trauma therapist,
guitarist, and terrific human. They live in the mountains in Northern Colorado with
a wonderful young adult, a kung fu cat, and silly dog.
